Le Chateau des Ormes

After spending such a wonderful and moving day tracing our grandfather’s steps, we had the great joy of staying at Le Chateau des Ormes, just outside of Lille. Our hostess, Isabelle, was welcoming and full of life. We had the great good fortune of sitting out on the “front porch” — that is, a lovely stone terrace that overlooks the park — with Isabelle, who brought out cold local ale and tasty snacks. She was an absolute delight.

Highly recommended place to stay — a medieval feel with modern touches (including wifi). The breakfast was tasty, spread out on an antique side buffet and served on a wood “monastery” type table. The dining room has an amazing mosaic floor, original to the house.
