Chesapeake Bay Bridge
We started our long travel day(s) with an Uber from Ashburn, Virginia, to Dulles. I was lucky enough to have TSA precheck and sailed through. Laura and I, Laura being one of my high school friends and a many-times-over travel companion (Ireland, South America, Bahamas…), had a nice meal on the B Concourse.
We left IAD on time, on Lufthansa. Such a classy airline—warm hand towels, snacks, 3-course meal, wine, and then a snack just before landing.
So….Frankfurt Airport. What a mess! Although we were on a connecting international flight, the airport has a crazy new(er) security check; we had to wait over an hour to go it. Truly surprised at how inefficient it was; what happened to German ingenuity? No signs, no directions from security/airport staff.
WARNING: Avoid short connections at Frankfurt Airport!
Finally got through, gate had been changed, but we still had time to have a nice breakfast (https://www.kuffler.de/en/airport-ffm/kuffler-bucher-airport.php)– scrambled eggs, toast, tea, and delicious sausage.
Both of us had an empty seat next to us and were able to stretch out. Again, excellent service.
Arrived on time in Nairobi. Airport was easy enough to navigate; we had already gotten our EVISAs ahead of time so we were ready to go. No check of yellow fever vaccine proof, which was surprising. Customs nearly nonexistent; nothing formal.
Our driver Paul picked us up, drove us to Rosslyn Academy, where we met up with Laura’s niece and her friends.
Really didn’t feel jet lagged; thank you No Jet Lag
Wound down and went to sleep—slept well!
