Malasadas

Portuguese donuts! Though they don’t have a whole in the middle, these hot from the oven donuts are great!

You can get them filled with custard but I went with the original and the cinnamon sugar-covered one. They are very doughy and soft and filling!

I went to one of Leonard’s food truck/ “Malasadamobiles,” the one in Waipahu.

The story goes that Leonard’s grandparents came to Hawaii from Portugal to work the sugar cane fields. They suggested he make malasadas for Shrove Tuesday…and an entire malasada craze was born.

I thoroughly enjoyed them!
